Really!

Can I get an abortion, please?  The recent tragic death of 11-year-old Audii Cunningham at the hands of Don Steven McDougal has once again brought to light the devastating consequences of failing to protect our most vulnerable members of society. McDougal, a convicted sexual offender who was not registered as such, had been living near Audii  in a trailer in the same yard as Adudii’s home.

McDougal's history of sexual assault, including an incident involving a 10-year-old girl in 2007, should have warranted stringent monitoring and oversight to prevent future harm. However, the lack of proper identification and registration as a sex offender meant that he was able to live near young children, such as Audii.

This situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive and effective measures to address sexual violence and protect children, from predators.

Moreover, this tragedy occurs against the backdrop of restrictive abortion laws in Texas that limit women's access to reproductive healthcare and decision-making. In a state where women face significant obstacles to exercising their autonomy and securing their well-being, the case of Audii Cunningham serves as a stark reminder of the intersecting challenges and vulnerabilities that women and children, continue to face.
